LOROS “Always remembered Memorial Garden 2019”

In late July 2019 Coles Nurseries along with East Midlands Landscaping was contacted by LOROS to ask if we would assist and support with the building of a remembrance garden for their “Always Remembered” event in Jubilee Square, Leicester. The theme for this year’s event was the “Robin”.

LOROS Hospice is a local charity and every year we care for over 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We provide free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their family and carers.

After an initial visit with Magdalena and Charlotte from LOROS to our Gaddesby and Syston Nurseries, a plan and range of stock was agreed.

Milan from East Midlands Landscaping along with Vince from Coles Nurseries agreed a range and number of trees, shrubs and herbaceous lines to create the garden.

On Saturday 31st August a gang of volunteers from both companies along with LOROS staff arrived at Jubilee Square at 0900 to begin the build.

A big thank-you to Nigel at Trucklink.EU for supplying a vehicle and driver to transport the stock to site – The driver Rob, was also great.

Over the next few hours a garden was created that covered offer 150 square meters. It included benches for quite reflection, trees- some up to 3.0m in height along with shrubs and herbaceous plants.

Photinia x fraseri “Red Robin” was used extensively through-out the garden to link the garden to the Robin theme.

The event was officially launched and opened on Monday 2nd September and we all had the first view of the “LOROS Robins” that could be purchased as support. The garden was open every-day and early evening until Sunday 8th September.

Throughout the week LOROS staff and an army of volunteers was on hand to help people understand just what LOROS provide and also more importantly help them make donations.

Having visited the garden on Saturday 7th with my Mother and been involved with the selection and building of the garden, I can only thank all who volunteered and made this fantastic garden possible for LOROS

Having been in close contact with both Magdalena and Charlotte, I know they and all at LOROs were amazed at what was created and all the hard work that went in to it.

Hi Vince and Milan and all the volunteers,

It is just a quick note from me to express once again how amazed I am with our Memory Garden at Jubilee Square which you so kindly and generously brought to life. Thank you so very much for your kindness, enthusiasm and commitment towards this projects.
